The Project
The school identified a need for a dedicated pupil entrance, as visitors, staff and pupils were all utilising the principal entrance, passing through the main reception area. This dedicated pupil entrance has allowed pupils entering the school building to be monitored and provide a dedicated office where students can speak with staff privately. This purpose-built single storey extension (totalling 25m2 ) is comprised of an entrance lobby, two-person office and single WC. The project was tendered via a single stage tender process and was let on a JCT minor works contract with contractor design. The project value was £60.2k, with an 8-week construction and fit out programme, completing in September 2020.
Our Role
As Contract Administrator we were appointed to:
- develop the design
- prepare a schedule of works and drawings
- Tender the works
- Submit and obtain planning permission
- prepare the contract documentation
- monitor quality and progress on site.
Furthermore, we chaired progress meetings, undertook valuations, instructed variations and certified practical completion (ensuring all outstanding matters and snagging items were closed out).
Key Outcomes
- Traditionally constructed extension that was sympathetic to the surrounding school buildings and materials used
- Provided a dedicated pupil entrance to assist with monitoring pupil attendance
- Enable the school to reconfigure the main reception area
- Provide clear separation between pupils and visitors entering the school, thus helping to enhance the schools existing safeguarding measures
