The Project
We have obtained funding for and delivered numerous toilet refurbishment works to pupil toilets. Typically, the works are undertaken during the school’s summer holiday period, due to the length of project programmes, noise and disruption that is caused. Toilet refurbishment works range in value from circa £15k up to £167.6k and are let on a JCT minor works contract with contractor’s design.
Our Role
We were appointed to look at reconfiguring and refurbishing existing pupil toilets in order to maximise the number of facilities where spatial requirements permit. As part of our designs, we look to incorporate hygienic and easily cleaned surfaces, touchless flush, taps and hand dryers where possible.
Where applicable, designs are undertaken in compliance with the Department for Education, schools output specification for sanitaryware.
As Contract Administrator, we will liaise with the client to gain an understanding of the daily issues encountered with the current installations. Then we develop the design to address these issues, before tendering the works. After tender analysis and contract award, we prepare the contract documentation, monitoring quality and progress on site.
We will also chair progress meetings, undertake valuations, instruct variations, certify practical completion, and ensure all outstanding matters and snagging items are closed out.

- Providing pupils with toilet facilities which are age appropriate.
- Clean hygienic environment, which is easily cleaned by the facilities team.
- Provide an environment which pupils are happy to use.
- Selection and installation of appropriate materials for high usage area, to prevent premature failure.
